Class AAA Girls
100 Meter Dash
Ripley's Allison Fields came from behind in the last 30 meters to take the narrow victory
over Musselman's Eva Pisano and Morgantown's Jahmia Bridges-Butler. Fields scored
a 12.45 while Pisano and Bridges-Butler both recorded 12.49s. Fields didn't take
the lead until the final 5 meters. No one else was under 12.70.
Washington's Roxanne McFarlin was the only other one under 12.80 with her 12.71.
RunWV's Current Score: 6 of 6.
200 Meter Dash
No comeback was needed for Ripley's Allison Fields in the 200 as she led down the entire
homestretch and held off Morgantown's Jahmia Bridges-Butler for the win in 25.68 to
25.81. George Washington's Malika Houston was 3rd in 26.20. Spring Mills' Sydnei
Taylor was 4th in 26.44. The top 6 were under 26.80.
RunWV's Current Score 10 of 12.
400 Meter Dash
Woodrow Wilson's Mikah Alleyne was 5th coming into the homestretch, but she was smooth
and strong down the stretch and took the lead with about 15 meters to go to win in 57.29.
Washington's Roxanne McFarlin joined her under 58 seconds with a 57.64. Morgantown's
Amber Dombrowski led most of the race and held onto 3rd at 58.22. Spring Mills'
Sydnei Taylor was 4th in 58.49. Parkersburg's Madison Trippett was 5th in 59.22,
and Hurricane's Danielle Ray gave us 6 under 60 seconds with her 59.83.
RunWV's Current Score: 15 of 18.
800 Meter Run
Ripley's Tori Starcher took the lead right from the gun and led the field through
the first lap in 1:06. Parkersburg's Madison Trippett was in 2nd at 1:07.
Hurricane's Anna Gordon was in 3rd at 1:09. Morgantown's Amber Dombrowski
was in 4th. Starcher had started to pull away at the end of the first lap, and she
didn't stop pulling away until the finish line. Her 2:12.94 is the 2nd Best All-Time
State Meet Performance and the 2nd Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance.
Trippett easily held the 2nd spot in 2:16.80. Gordon kept the 3rd position in 2:22.85.
Dombrowski maintained the 4th position in 2:23.44. Cabell Midland's Adria Fox
took the 5th spot at 2:24.65. Hampshire's Hannah Lipps claimed the final position
in 2:25.96. One of my predicted placers did not run.
RunWV's Current Score: 19 of 24.
1600 Meter Run
The field was fairly aggressive with Ripley's Tori Starcher and University's
TaShala Turner taking them out in 1:10. Morgantown's Samantha Hatcher
was in 3rd at 1:12 with Hampshire's Hannah Lipps matching that time in 4th.
I believe it was Parkersburg South's Abby Herring in 5th at 1:14 with Wheeling
Park's Beighley Ayers matching that time in 6th. On the 2nd lap, just like
the 3200, Starcher and Turner started to pull away from the field while battling each
other. They came through in 2:28. Hatcher and Lipps came through in 2:32. Ayers
was up to 5th in 2:34 with Parkersburg's Olivia Collett in 6th with the same
time. On lap 3, Starcher and Turner continued to battle, with Turner making a big for
the lead on the backstretch and taking the lead in the turn. She held that lead
heading into the final lap with both coming through at 3:45. Hatcher had pulled away
with the 3rd spot at 3:49. Lipps was in 4th at 3:53. Collett was in 5th at 3:54
with Ayers in 6th at 3:56. Starcher made the pass on Turner just after the lap started,
and the kicks began. On the backstretch, Starcher started to pull away, and she
continued to pull away for the rest of the lap, closing in 68 seconds to finish at
4:53.91, which is the 2nd Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 2nd
Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Turner closed in 71 and finished
at 4:56.98, which is the 5th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the
4th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Hatcher easily held the
3rd position with a 5:04.08. Lipps kept the 4th spot at 5:12.82. Collett maintained
the 5th position at 5:14.21. Ayers held the 6th spot at 5:16.15. The top 7 were all
under 5:20.
RunWV's Current Score: 25 of 30.
3200 Meter Run
The field went out briskly with Ripley's Tori Starcher leading them through in 1:12.
University's TaShala Turner matched that time in 2nd. Parkersburg's Madison
Trippett was in 3rd at 1:14, with that time matched by Morgantown's Samantha Hatcher
and Hampshire's Hannah Lipps. In 6th at 1:15 was Wheeling Park's Beighley Ayers.
Lap 2 saw Starcher and Turner extend their lead a little with Starcher still in front at
2:31 and Turner at 2:32. Lipps had moved up to 3rd in 2:34. Trippett was in 4th at 2:37.
Hatcher and Ayers were in 5th and 6th, respectively at 2:38. Lap 3 saw Lipps close up on
Starcher and Turner. Starcher still led at 3:53 with Turner and Lipps at 3:54. Trippett
remained in 4th at 4:03 with Hatcher and Ayers at 4:04. The front 3 stayed pretty much
together for the 4th lap with Starcher continuing to lead at 5:16 and Turner and Lipps at
5:17. Hatcher had moved into 4th at 5:28 with that time matched by Trippett and Ayers.
On lap 5, Starcher and Turner started to get away from Lipps just a little with Starcher
and Turner coming through in 6:40 and Lipps at 6:42. Hatcher was 4th in 6:51. Ayers was in
5th at 6:52. Trippett was still holding 6th in 6:56, but was joined by teammate Olivia
Collett at that time. On lap 6, Starcher and Turner continued to duel with both
coming through at 8:05. They slightly increased the gap on Lipps to 3 seconds as she
came through at 8:08. Hatcher remained in 4th at 8:15 with Ayers in 5th at 8:17.
Collett had moved into 6th at 8:25. On lap 7, Turner made the pass on Starcher going
into the final turn as the race started to heat up. But Starcher shot back around just before
the end of the lap to take the lead heading into the final lap with both at 9:27.
Lipps remained in 3rd at 9:36, but Hatcher in 9:40 and Ayers in 9:41 were closing.
Collett had a firm grip on 6th at 9:51. On the final lap, Starcher and Turner battled
through the first turn, but on the backstretch, Starcher opened a slight gap. Heading
into the final turn, the gap opened a bit more, and then slightly more through the turn.
Down the stretch, she continued to increase her margin and take the win by 1.6 seconds.
Her time of 10:39.04 is the 3rd Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the
2nd Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Turner's 10:40.64 is the
5th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 4th Best All-Time Class
AAA State Meet Performance. Ayers closed well to move up to 3rd in 10:56.88,
which is the 10th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 9th Best All-Time
Class AAA State Meet Performance. Lipps held the 4th spot at 10:58.47, and Hatcher
was 5th in 10:59.05, giving us 5 runners under 11:00 for the first time in State Meet
history. Collett easily held the 6th spot at 11:12.11. One of my predicted placers did not finish.
RunWV's Current Score: 30 of 36.
100 Meter High Hurdles
George Washington's Malika Houston blasted the field and set a new State Record
with her 14.35 clocking. This now stands as the Best All-Time State Meet Performance
and the Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Morgantown's Jahmia Bridges-Butler
was the only other competitor to go under 15 seconds with her 14.79. Woodrow Wilson's Mikah
Alleyne was 3rd in 15.20, followed by Huntington's Mariah Harmon at 15.37. No one
else was under 15.60.
RunWV's Current Score: 35 of 42.
300 Meter Low Hurdles
George Washington's Malika Houston took this one as well, topping the field by almost
0.8 seconds in 44.51. She pulled away over the final two hurdles. Her time is the 8th Best
All-Time State Meet Performance and the 6th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance.
Buckhannon-Upshur's Leah Stankus made a late move into the 2nd position in 45.32, getting
by Wheeling Park's Aubrey Wiethe in the last few meters. Wiethe joined her
under 46 seconds with a 45.49. George Washington's Deaira Brownwas the only other one to go
under 47 seconds with a 46.52.
RunWV's Current Score: 40 of 48.
4x100 Meter Relay
Morgantown's foursome of Justice McDowell, Justice Washington, Domenique Hunter, and Jahmia
Bridges-Butler pummelled the field in taking the event by nearly a full second in 49.81.
Musselman edged past Cabell Midland for 2nd 50.76 to 50.81. No one else went under 51 seconds,
and only Washington and Wheeling Park were under 52 seconds. It was a sloppy event that saw a
False Start, a DQ, and a pair of DNFs. One of my predicted placing teams was the False Start,
and another was the DQ.
RunWV's Current Score: 44 of 54.
4x200 Meter Relay
Ripley's group of Courtney Lanham, Sydni Cunningham, Laurel Miller, and Allison Fields
sped away from the field in a strong 1:44.79, winning by almost 1.8 seconds. Jefferson held off
Spring Mills for 2nd in 1:46.57 to 1:46.90. Martinsburg and Huntington were under 1:48 in
taking 4th and 5th, respectively.
RunWV's Current Score: 49 of 60.
4x400 Meter Relay
Ripley led this from the start with a 60.8 opening leg from Allison Fields. I believe
Hurricane was in 2nd and Morgantown 3rd at this point. On the 2nd leg, Cabell Midland made
a pass into the lead on the backstretch, but Ripley retook the lead before the exchange.
Hurricane moved into 2nd before the exchange. Cabell Midland was in 3rd with John Marshall
in 4th. Morgantown was in 5th with University in 6th. Ripley somewhat put it away on the
3rd leg with a 60.8 from Laurel Miller. Cabell Midland had lost 2nd and took it back
shortly before the exchange. Hurricane was in 3rd. Morgantown was in 4th with John Marshall
in 5th and Wheeling Park in 6th. Ripley sealed the deal with a 57.7 leg from Tori Starcher,
who concluded a brilliant meet by helping the crew of Allison Fields, Haley Carson, Laurel
Miller, and Tori Starcher to a new State Record of 4:01.82. This is the All-Time
Best State Meet Performance and the All-Time Best Class AAA State Meet Performance.
Morgantown got an excellent anchor leg from Amber Dombrowski to move up to 2nd
in 4:07.22. Cabell Midland was 3rd in 4:08.42. George Washington and Hampshire snagged 4th
and 5th while battling each other in the first heat with times of 4:09.97 and 4:11.16,
respectively. Hurricane took the final spot in 4:11.48.
RunWV's Current Score: 54 of 66.
4x800 Meter Relay
Morgantown took it out hard early with a 2:20 opening lead from Amber Dombrowski. Cabell
Midland was running 2nd with George Washington right behind. I believe it was Hampshire in
4th, followed by University in 5th and Parkersburg in 6th. On the 2nd leg, Morgantown took
complete control, coming through in 4:42. Cabell Midland was in 2nd about 9 seconds behind.
University had moved up to 3rd at 4:52. Parkersburg had moved up to 4th, also in 4:52.
Hurricane had moved into 5th in 4:53. George Washington was in 6th at 4:56. The 3rd leg closed
things up a bit, but Morgantown still held the lead at 7:16. Cabell Midland was still in 2nd
at 7:20. University was in 3rd at 7:21. Hampshire had moved back up to 4th in 7:24. Wheeling
Park had moved up to 5th in 7:25. Parkersburg was in 6th at 7:26. The final leg of the race
saw some very good splits. Morgantown got a 2:17 split from Samantha Hatcher to preserve
the win. The Morgantown crew of Amber Dombrowski, Aleena McDaniel, Myah McAlister, and
Samantha Hatcher took the win by nearly 6 seconds with a really strong 9:33.41, which is
the 3rd Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 3rd Best All-Time Class AAA
State Meet Performance. University got a 2:17 leg from TaShala Turner to move up
to 2nd in 9:39.24. Parkersburg got a 2:14 leg from Madison Trippett to moved from 6th
to 3rd (and for a while 2nd) in 9:40.62. Hampshire got a 2:21 from Hannah Lipps to
secured 4th in 9:45.66, just ahead of Cabell Midland in 9:46.02. Wheeling Park claimed the
final spot in 9:49.12. The top 7 were all under 9:53, and then there was a 22 second gap to 8th.
RunWV's Current Score: 59 of 72.
Shuttle Hurdle Relay
The Musselman team of Janaia Fargo, Sophia Pisano, Jordyn Sellman, and Eva Pisano used a
stellar anchor leg from Eva Pisano to take the come-from-behind win by 1.4 seconds in
1:04.04. This gives them the 8th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 7th
Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. John Marshall edged Hampshire for 2nd
1:05.44 to 1:05.56. Huntington joined them under 1:06 with a 1:05.95.
RunWV's Current Score: 65 of 78.
High Jump
Ripley's Laurel Miller soared well above the field with her 5'8 leap, a jump that ties her for
the 3rd Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 2nd Best All-Time Class AAA State
Meet Performance. No one else went higher than 5'2. Only Wheeling Park's Sydney Moffett
and Woodrow Wilson's Mikah Alleyne cleared 5'2 among the rest of the field as they tied for
2nd. Only 6 cleared 5'0.
RunWV's Current Score: 69 of 84.
Pole Vault
Washington's Lauren Zaglifa followed up her All-Time Best Regional Performance with a new
State Record vault of 12'1. This gives her the Best All-Time State Meet Performance
and the Best All-time Class AAA State Meet Performance. No one else cleared higher than
10'0. Among the rest of the field, only Jefferson's Lily Simmons cleared 10'0. Capital's
Haley Snodgrass and Wheeling Park's Brady Browning cleared 9'6 in taking 3rd and
4th, respectively.
RunWV's Current Score: 74 of 90.
Long Jump
It was a good weekend for George Washington's Malika Houston as she picked up a win in
the long jump to go with her wins in the two hurdle events. Her leap of 18'0.25 is the 7th
Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 6th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance.
Spring Mills' Sydnei Taylor was 2nd in 17'4.50. Jefferon's Jillian Andrews joined her
over 17'0 in 3rd at 17'0.25. Only George Washington's Gabrielle Reynolds was over 16'0
among the rest of the field with her 16'5.25 jump. One of my predicted placers did not jump.
RunWV's Current Score: 79 of 96.
Shot Put
In a close battle, Cabell Midland's Kylie Miles took the title by just 1/2" over Martinsburg's
Shakeera Brown, 38'6.25 to 38'5.75. Capital's Kiauna Facemyer was close as well
at 37'8.25. Hegedsville's MaryAnn Adebeyo was the only other competitor over 35'0 with her
throw of 36'3.50.
RunWV's Current Score: 85 of 102.
Discus
Morgantown's Sydney Jefferys had a season best throw by 8' to take the win with a 115'4.
Martinsburg's Shakeera Brown was 2nd with a 112'6. Cabell Midland's Kylie Miles
was 3rd with a 109'6. Morgantown's Mikaylah Cress had a season best throw by a whopping
11' to take a surprise 4th with a 108'11. No one else threw 105'0. If you want to look for an event that
determined the team championship, look no further. Predictions had Morgantown falling to
Ripley by 5 points. They won by 2. They had been predicted with just a 4th place finish
in this event...aka 4 points. They scored 14 with a pair of significant season-best throws.
And how's this for clutch performance. Cress fouled on her 1st two throws, and hit her
108'11. Jefferys' mark came on her final throw, moving her from 4th to 1st. If either of
those things doesn't happen, Ripley takes the team title.
RunWV's Current Score: 90 of 108.
The final score of 90 of 108 means that 83.3% of the people picked to place did indeed place. Congratulations to those that proved me wrong.
